WHAT TO BRING TO A SWIM MEET
1. Portable Chair
Swimmers spend significant time resting between warm-ups and races. A chair helps them stay comfortable and conserve energy for their events.
2. Water / Sports Drinks & Cooler
Meet sessions are often hot, and staying hydrated is essential for performance and recovery. Please ensure your swimmer has sufficient water or electrolyte drinks.
3. Healthy Snacks
Because swimmers perform multiple short, high-intensity efforts, quick and light carbohydrate-based snacks help maintain energy levels. Ideal snacks include:
-
½ banana between races
-
Fruit snacks (e.g., Welch’s)
-
Dates (1–2; remove pits)
-
Raisins (½ of a mini box)
-
Pretzels (15–20 pieces)
-
Goldfish crackers (one handful)
-
Applesauce cups or squeeze pouches
-
Honey sticks
-
Dried cereal (small handful)
-
Dried apple rings (4–5 pieces)
-
Honey Stinger waffles
-
Fruit cups (packed in juice/water)
-
Sports gels (e.g., GU)
-
Sports gummies
-
Dried mango (with Tajín for extra sodium if desired)
4. Sun Protection
Sunscreen, hats, and protective clothing are strongly recommended. Prolonged sun exposure can lead to sunburn, which negatively impacts performance and comfort.
5. Cash
Some meets require cash-only admission or parking payments. Please plan accordingly.
6. Meet Mobile App
We encourage parents to download the Meet Mobile app.
Features include:
-
Heat sheets
-
Team and swimmer search
-
“Unofficial” real-time results
-
Notifications when your swimmer’s events are posted
7. Electronics Policy
To maintain focus:
-
10 & under swimmers: No phones, tablets, or gaming devices allowed in the team tent/waiting area.
-
11 & older swimmers: Limited and monitored use. Coaches may restrict use to avoid distractions.
8. Towels
Swimmers should bring multiple towels. Towels get wet quickly after warm-up and races, making it difficult to stay warm and dry with only one.
IMPORTANT REMINDER
Missing any of these items can negatively affect a swimmer’s performance. Meets require maximum physical and mental effort, and it is our shared responsibility—as coaches and parents—to ensure swimmers have the environment and tools needed to compete at their best.
